Natural living isn’t a trend for us. It’s a 20+-year journey.

This site exists because essential oils work. Not because we read about them — because we lived them.

Let me tell you how a skeptic became a believer.

My name is Max McGruff. I spent a few years in construction, enjoyed a few years in the Air Force as a firefighter — mostly in Alaska, and then moved into sales and marketing career helping companies grow. I’m not someone you’d expect to find writing about essential oils. When my wife, Erin started getting serious about them, I’ll be honest — I thought it was a phase.

I was wrong.

Erin’s story started in a salon.

Years of working with chemical-laden products left their mark — on her health, her energy, the way she felt at the end of a long day. She started looking for something better. One client recommendation led to another. Store-brand oils gave way to Young Living. What began as personal curiosity became professional commitment — including training directly under Young Living founder D. Gary Young. The Raindrop technique. Years of conferences. Specialized studies including the history of Oils in Ancient Scripture. Thousands of hours working with people one on one as a massage therapist and wellness consultant.

Erin didn’t just learn about essential oils. She built her life around them.

And I watched what happened.

I watched the chemical cleaners disappear from under our sink. I watched what changed when she started diffusing lavender at night and peppermint in the morning. I watched people come to her struggling — with stress, with sleep, with chronic issues they’d been managing for years — and leave with real, practical guidance that made a difference.

So I started reading. Not testimonials — research. Peer-reviewed studies on how linalool interacts with the nervous system. Clinical data on eucalyptus and respiratory function. Meta-analyses on peppermint and IBS. The evidence was there. It wasn’t magic. It was chemistry, applied thoughtfully, from plants that humans have been using for thousands of years.

That’s when I stopped thinking this was a phase.

We built this site because the information out there is a mess.

Most of what you find online about essential oils is either overblown marketing or outright misinformation. Wild health claims with no evidence behind them. Vague advice that doesn’t help anyone. Products sold on hype instead of quality.

Oils for Living exists to do something different — to share what 20+ years of real experience actually looks like. The science, the practical uses, the honest safety information, and the straight talk about what oils can and can’t do.

Max writes. Erin guides. Between us, we’ve got the skeptic’s eye and the expert’s knowledge — and we think that combination serves you better than either one alone.

We genuinely believe essential oils are God’s medicine — placed on this earth for our health, our homes, and our healing. We also believe that belief doesn’t excuse bad information. So we cite our sources, calibrate our claims, and tell you when the evidence is strong, when it’s preliminary, and when something is mostly traditional use.

That’s the standard we hold ourselves to.

We believe in oils. We believe in you.
